A simple homemade café-style French toast
made with sweet grape syrup, and a touch of powdered sugar.

.
Autumn is here,
and the season is filled with sweet and refreshing fruits
like apples, pears, and figs.
.
I find myself constantly filling the refrigerator
with all kinds of seasonal fruit,
only to watch them disappear surprisingly quickly. 🙂
.
Some fruits are easy to finish before they go bad,
but a large bunch of grapes can become soft
within just a day or two.
I always worry about them getting moldy
or attracting fruit flies.
.
That’s when I came up with a little idea:
making homemade fruit syrup
by combining grapes and sugar.
.
We often make fruit syrups with ingredients
like quince, lemon, yuzu, grapefruit, and maesil (Korean green plum).
They’re wonderful for making tea
or adding a fragrant sweetness to different dishes.
.
But making syrup with grapes
was something I had never really considered before.
.
Out of curiosity and a little spirit of experimentation,
I combined Kyoho grapes and muscovado sugar
in a 1:1 ratio by weight.
And oh my…
I ended up with the sweetest, most delicious
homemade grape syrup! 💜
.
It’s absolutely delicious mixed into sparkling water
to make a refreshing grape ade.
I also started using it on French toast
instead of maple syrup,
and it made the perfect sweet breakfast treat. ☺️

🍞 French Toast
1. Prepare the bread.
Use a loaf of sandwich bread
or thick slices of bread.
- I trimmed off the crusts for a softer texture,
but you can leave them on if you prefer.
.
2. Make the egg mixture.
In a deep bowl,
whisk together the milk, egg,
and 1 tsp of muscovado sugar.
.
3. Soak the bread.
Dip the bread into the egg-and-milk mixture,
turning it carefully to coat all six sides evenly.
Allow the bread to absorb enough of the mixture.
.
4. Cook the French toast.
Heat a pan thoroughly,
add a little oil,
and cook the bread until golden brown on all sides.
.
5. Serve.
Place the golden French toast on a plate
and dust with powdered sugar.
.
6. Add the grape syrup.
Gently spoon the homemade grape syrup
over the French toast.
Add cream cheese or other toppings
according to your taste.
.
7. Enjoy!
Serve with grape syrup mixed into sparkling water
for a refreshing homemade grape ade.
It’s even more delicious this way! 💜
